Punjab News: The Punjab government plans to set up 66 solar power plants, each with a 4 MW capacity, totaling 264 MW. This initiative, announced by Aman Arora, Minister of New and Renewable Energy Sources, aims to reduce the state's reliance on fossil fuels, lower power subsidies, and bolster clean energy production.

Significant Investment and Economic Impact

The project will involve an investment of ₹1,056 crore and is expected to generate approximately 390 million units (MU) of electricity annually. By implementing feeder-level solarization, the state anticipates saving around ₹136 crore per year. The development is projected to create numerous job opportunities for both skilled and semi-skilled workers in the renewable energy sector.

Boosting Agriculture and Rural Economy

In addition to its environmental benefits, the solar power initiative is set to enhance agricultural output and rejuvenate the rural economy. The increased availability of clean energy is expected to support agricultural activities and contribute to overall economic development in the state. This ambitious plan was discussed in a high-level meeting led by Arora and Power Minister Harbhajan Singh, involving senior officers from the departments of New and Renewable Energy Sources, Power, and the Punjab Development Commission.
